Until the 1980's, Olathe KS was regarded by those living within the Kansas City metropolitan area, as a community a bit on the wild side. Of course back then, it really was "out there" since the suburban edge of Kansas City was much farther north than it is now. Olathe has been the county seat of Johnson County since 1859 and it is geographically, in the center of Johnson County.
Olathe has come a long way, experiencing rapid commercial growth in the 1980's followed by a real estate boom that has lasted almost 30 years! Olathe (which is a Shawnee word for "beautiful") has an excellent public school system and also claims the second busiest airport in the state at Johnson County Executive Airport.
With growth have come all the amenities that make living in Olathe one of the best places to live in Johnson County. Great shopping, dining and entertainment experiences are all here with more sure to come!
